Ravenna Creek

Notice the Sword ferns and Horsetails going on the side of the Creek.

Ravenna Park is located in the center of an urban area, so its creek demonstrates human’s effect on the ecosystem. You will find plastic trash  along with some diverse species growing around the creek. The sides of the creek is great place to find Giant Horsetails growing almost about two or three feet in the spring. You will also find pretty small yellow flower of creeping buttercups and plenty of Dandelion Seed Pods here during spring and summer.  Like most wetland around here, you will find plenty of Sedges, grass and Cattail along the creek. The creek itself is also a great place to find green algae which is consumed as food by many amphibians like frogs and other water- dwelling insects.  This creek provides water to trees in its tributaries  during our summer droughts. This is a crucial park of the ecosystem in our region because a lot of evergreen trees depend upon water from creek like this to photosynthesize during the summer.
