View of a recent ecological disturbance in Ravenna.
A recent ecological disturbance is very
prevalent in Ravenna Park. From trunks decaying on the ground throughout the
park, it is evident that some kinds of wind or snow storm in the recent years
have had an ecological impact in this park. This spot that I chose is a great
example of that. From snags, and tree trunks of Western Red Cedar lying on the
ground on both sides of this creek, it looks like this part of the park had a
flood in the past few years. From the wetland shrubs and plants already growing
near the fallen trees it is apparent that pioneering species have already
starting growing. In some part it looks like small shrubs areas have already
transition to the next succession species like Big-leaf Maple. This ecological
disturbance does not seem to have harmed this particular area very much.
Quickly after the disturbance, it looks like other pioneering species took over
the area restoring it to a diverse plant habitat.
More fallen tree trunks on the side of Ravenna Creek.
